Sixteen months after a mother of three was last seen alive a man has been convicted of her murder thanks to a trail caught on professional cctv recorders.
The fatal lasts moments of Mary McLaren's life were played out to the jury at the High Court in Edinburgh which convicted Patrick Rae.
Surveillance camera systems inside Fat Sams nightclub in Dundee recorded Rae's interaction with Mary McLaren. Images from 25 February 2010 clearly showed Rae paying a lot of attention to Mary and her sister. Then as the pair exited the club, CCTV also caught them leaving, proving that the 41-year-old had been with Mary in the hours before her death.
By studying images captured on professional cctv recorders of nearby streets police saw the couple up until about 0247 GMT at the Ladywell roundabout in Dundee. Then two weeks after her disappearance, Mrs McLaren's body was discovered in undergrowth near the roundabout in Dundee city centre.
