American Legion Post 852 of Temecula recently announced the selection of four local high school juniors to attend Boys State national program.
David Mora and Ryan Sebastian were selected from Great Oak High School.
Ryan Talamantes from Murrieta Valley and James Jesperson from Vista Murrieta were also selected.
There were over 30 junior boys in the three high schools who expressed interest in the program.
Legionnaires conducted individual interviews seeking the candidates who would gain the greatest benefit from the program and use the experience gained during their senior year of high school.
The Temecula post sponsors this program for junior boys in high schools every year.
Boys State is a national American Legion program which enables high school junior boys to attend a one week legislative learning session in their respective state’s capital.
In California, over 800 boys from throughout the state, all sponsored by American Legion posts, attend the session held in Sacramento.
The boys are lodged in the dormitories of Sacramento State University for a full week during June.
During the week, they are immersed in the workings of the legislative processes of local, state and federal governments with hands-on participation.
The week concludes with a visit to the state capitol and an audience with the sitting state governor.
