Nicole Kidman:Rabbit Hole Review

Friday, December 17, 2010
There is no justice in Hollywood. By rights, we have seen, Cynthia Nixon, John Slattery and Tyne Daly repeat his highly praised theater in the film version of the hole Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire play Rabbit.
But Nixon (Sex and the City), Slattery (Mad Men) and Daly (Amy, Cagney and Lacey) are also commonly known as a television actor. Translation: they are not big names at the box office. So instead they give us Nicole Kidman (who also produced the film) and Aaron Eckhart at least two of the actors in the film sympathetic reading of a couple mourning the death of his young son. Dianne Wiest, now has the function of Daly's mother character Kidman.
Wiest is excellent, Eckhart is better than expected, but Kidman just does not have the means to work. It's nice when you have cold, cynical and vicious - things you do well. (Remember Margot at the wedding?) But when his party needs to disclose to their fear and confusion behind his sensitive skin that is less successful. His performance was the hole in Rabbit Hole - loss of what should be a tear inducing drama does quiet melancholy light exercise.
Kidman and Eckhart play Becca and Howie, a couple whose four years died of old boy when he was hit by a car while chasing his dog on the street. Eight months after his death, the pair have a deal with the tragedy in very different and division to achieve.
Becca, a former employee of Sotheby's, has a reasonable approach, neglected feel accepted neglected. Thoroughly wash the clothes of her dead son and his pragmatic approach that pregnant younger sister (Tammy Blanchard) offers. At a session of group therapy for parents of dead children, dumping a couple of helpers for a long time as "Treat professional" and can not stand it when another couple who seeks solace in religion from the death of his daughter, lullabies platitudes about God needed an angel.
"Why do not you make one?" Adaptation. "I mean, he is God after all."
Howie is prone to wallow. At night, when you think Becca sleeps, he sees a favorite video of his son at home and back to his cell phone. When Rebecca refused to return the group, he goes alone. Soon he is connecting with other bereaved parents, Gaby (a beautiful Sandra Oh), also marital problems.
But Becca is not how it looks. You irrationally angry when he sees the other parent to deny their children. She gets to Nat (Wiest), his mother with good intentions, but talkative when Nat's own grief over the death of his son dares compare addicted to heroin for 30 years. And for reasons I can not explain, Becca is called to observe and talk to Jason (baby-faced Miles Teller), killed a young sweet, artistic, that drive the car and struck his son.
Silence, meditation, emotional, with occasional use of fireworks is, Rabbit Hole is a mature treatment of a difficult subject. He has the kind of writing, where the fair value of the preview of each character. And while the parents and the driver was taken at all the terrible accident, no one is really guilty. As Jason, it's still in shock, he seems to wish he said to a street that day, his repentance be a pain but pain is Becca and Howie had taken.
Screen adaptation of the Lindsay-Abaire extends the world of work, but still he and director John Cameron Mitchell loyal, peaceful mood. Production designer Kalina Ivanov awarded subtly suggests affluent suburban lifestyle Becca and Howie and the roots of the working class Becca. Composer Anton Sanko, who has played with Suzanne Vega, offers a poignant tenderness that filled the guitar. (The film really feels like a song, spare parts, yet eloquent, Vega.)
The only misstep comes the end, if Mitchell is prone to a flashback sequence in slow motion suddenly plunges us into the corny conventions seemed determined to prevent the film.
Wiest, fresh from his Emmy-winning performance as a therapist Zen HBO In Treatment, is a pleasure to open Becca mother. Although he drink and chat about the "Kennedy curse" tends to happen Nat has the wisdom of experience when it has a chance. Ekhart stop their usual smarminess is likeable as the father as the known symptoms of pain.
But Becca emotional journey is at the heart of this story and Kidman is not easy to connect the name. catch Those of us fortunate to have the power Cynthia Nixon, winner of the Tony Award in New York were able to not imagine how many must be extended to nature.
As a parent of a toddler, I went in expectation Rabbit Hole fight the tears. I went without a handkerchief in his pocket.
Rabbit Hole opens in Toronto on 17 December in Montreal and Vancouver on 24 December.
